After reading a magazine article describing Frida Kahlo as, "not quite beautiful" I said, "What?!"

I was inspired to create a series of inks and paintings which illustrate just how much more she was than just simply beautiful. I have always admired the courage with which she faced her pain - her strength as she made her own path, and the raw power of her paintings. Awe-inspiring is what her beauty is.

First, I paid tribute to her with a series of ink paintings. I limited myself to using only three colours of ink to try to get to her essence. I loved painting these because I was free to make mistakes and incorporate them into the beauty of the final product.

I continue to be inspired by Frida and have continued to paint her often.
